Carp 18 Encounters Warm Reception at the Entry

By a Biased Member of the Band

The night...June 3rd--the place...7th Street Entry, Minneapolis--the temperature...I don't know, hotter than hell? It was warm and steamy like a good Tennessee Williams play ... Carp on a Hot Tin Roof.

Lovers Under Pressure opened the festivities with Carp 18 up 2nd. Days of Four followed the Carpsters with Second Nature rounding out the evening.

There was a good crowd on hand, it might be because of the between set break of the Albert Collins/Koko Taylor concert in the Mainroom, but we like to think we had something to do with it as well. Yellow Dye #5 went over well as did our literal reading of the C&H Sugar theme song.

Thanks to Bill for the sound and the tape. Thanks to everyone who showed up, including but not limited to: Kathy, Colleen, Dave and Vicki. Brian, Jim, Keith, Al, Mike, Steve & Ann, Michelle, and Jenny.

Carp 18 Jams with Gear Dad Randy Broughten

By a Still Trembling Member of Carp 18

Perhaps some fantasies seem trivial to others, like an acquaintance of mine who talks about rubber suits with great excitement..., oh never mind. Anyway, we were treated to a double dose of cheap thrills the other night when the Neil Young tribute band World on a

String was waiting to use our posh rehearsal hall. Not only were our obscure requests for Neil tunes played by this gang of crazy horses (we tried to stump them by asking to hear Danger Bird and L.A. but it was like asking KQ if (continued on page 3)

  T-Shirt News

Due to overwhelming demand (well, Mike DeCosse, anyway), the famous Roman Numeral Logo Carp shirt will be available for a limited time only in a lime-green tank-top with pink ink. Anyone daring enough to wear such an interesting fashion statement can order their fill. All other reasonable souls can still order the standard white/black or black/white. Call (612) 553-7794 for the shirt of your choice. The cost is ten dollars each. The overseas discount is fast becomning endangered due to non-use, so get those orders in soon.

 Upcoming Gigs

July 25, Bend in the Road, Manchester

We were this close to having KJJO sponsor this gig as "Going Home with Carp 18's Bass Player." But then another band, from another small, southern Minnesota town comes along and next thing you know--no sponsorship! Honest. Well, at least we'll be playing late so if you go to Austin first, you can come later and check us out too.

We also have a tentative gig lined up with the Glenrustles at a Rift Magazine sponsored show at the Uptown Underground. More on that as details become available.

Former Tangent to Wed
Hugh Robinson,
Carp fan and former Tangent, recently announced his engagement. Hugh and Carolyn will be tying the knot October 24th of this year.

Dorman Pitches for Twins
Dan Dorman,
Albert Lea, MN, recently had an opportunity to throw the first pitch at a Twins game. Dan won the honor as part of a Goodyear promotion, and did the company proud. After a tip of the hat to the {ens (and another tip of the hat to the fans, and an-

other...), Dan uncorked his famous Turtle ball for what would have been a strike in anyone's book. Let's just hope John Gordon pronounced his name right.

Carp Mom Lands Lunker in Lucky Lure Lottery
Phyllis Fahey
won $2,000 in the Minnesota Lottery, and, as any true Carp fan would, had the publicity photo taken while wearing a Carp 18 T-Shirt.

Mike DeCosse Announces Anticipated Purchase of Carp 18 T-Shirt

His terms though, are only if he can get a tank-top in lime green with abright pink logo. This only proves that the CarD 18 mern~ers are always happy to accommodate any special requests, musical or otherwise. (See related article, above.)

The request was made in September 1991 but we're a little backlogged from his previous request for Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves.

Deb & David Bialik to Take Road Trip
The itinerary begins with a trek to Wilmar, MN, then a hop, skip and a jump to Orlando, then a quick jaunt up to New York and then they'll buzz over to Tel Aviv. Ahhh... those MLT vacation packages.

they had copies of Southern Man and Cinammon Girl), but we wouldn't relinquish our space until Randola played pedal steel on our own Blue Highway.

Not to be held hostage, he obliged and quickly picked up on the intricate nuances and exotic chord changes (G-C & D) of the tune (seems Martin used those very same chords on a song of his). Trying to keep Randy under

control was pretty easy, there were no back flips or tongue wagging. All he wanted to was party....party party.

The tune sounded so good it'll be hard to play it again without the guy, but he might have other plans. By the way, we did officially ask him to play on it in the studio when we go (next month possibly) and he said he'd love to. So, the main reason for this article (o.k. shameless bragging is the main reason) is that by putting his promise in print we can be sure to hold him to it.

Days of Four kicking out the jams at the Entry after Carp18's hot set. That's KJJO's Robin Armstrong singing and playing through the coolest sounding guitar amp I've ever heard. Not pictured (just his guitar headstock) is Knut-Koupee's legendary own crazy man---Beem!
