Carp 18 Lyrics

Padded Amps & Flannel Shirts
  by Joe Fahey

ridin' with the top down in a GTO, even got reverb on the radio
looks like gray primer must be "in" this year
we're down to stems and seeds and blue ribbon beer
met the Baja Queen down at the 4-way stop
she's feelin' quite ecstatic 'cos she flipped off a cop
never took much notice of the seasons of the year
but there's no gettin' 'round the fact that summer's finally here

padded amps
& flannel shirts
fender champs
& livin' on the outskirts

hell bent on destruction but never knowing why
tipping over birdbaths and stealing apple pies
bet that ol' St. Francis is feeling pretty glum
as he watches God's good children in the wild, acting dumb
these Katzenjammer antics ain 't the worst thing in the world
but the windowsill detectives are sure in a whirl
if they built a youth center, oh wouldn't that be sweet?
we'd just be perfect angels and it'd keep us off the street

padded amps
& flannel shirts
fender champs
& livin' on the outskirts

stacking hay bales in the morning, sweeping factories at night
if you squint your eyes at 3 AM you can see the city lights
it's not that far to drive but no one ever wants to go
you can catch a ride when the crow flies if you ever see a crow
they're hiring next summer down at the mousetrap factory
with decent pay and bennies if you can take the irony
the humming from the toll way draws closer every year
come on up with the exact change
and get on outta here!
